Thanksgiving ‘12

So, I said I would post something about my Thanksgiving…

BeetSoupNBread

We made a raspberry-beet soup and homemade bread,

Broc Cass

broccoli casserole,

GBCass

green bean casserole, with caramelized onions instead of fried,

SaladTday

a big ol’ salad with homemade honey mustard dressing,

HummPlatter

a simple hummus and veggie platter, and (not pictured) some cranberry sauce, turkey, turkey gravy – proud of that one; made without a recipe from the drippings – and cherry clafouti (with rum instead of cognac; you work with what you’ve got).

It was really enjoyable to see all of the family and it’s sort of sad to realize everyone is finding a significant other or getting involved in life so that we can’t do more family things like this more frequently. I miss the times when my cousins would come over for all-nighters playing Mario Party. Maybe sometime during break we can set something up.

A note about homemade bread: If you happen to have a meat slicer in your house because your mother received it as a Christmas gift a few years back, you’re in luck! Place your homemade loaf in the freezer and let freeze overnight. Place the frozen loaf in your refrigerator about two hours before you plan to use it. While it’s still slightly frozen, set your meat slicer to your desired thickness and voila, perfectly even slices! Oh the things you learn while you work in Hell’s Kitchen, the café on campus during your foodservice management practicum.

And with that I’m off for now. I’ll be back with more later. To tide you over, enjoy “d’awwwww-ing” at our new puppy, Hera.

Ain’t she adorable?
